Mentorship

Young Asian professional women in technology face unique challenges as they build their careers. Persistent stereotypes—such as the “model minority” image of being smart but quiet, or lacking “executive presence”—can slow recognition and advancement into leadership roles.

Many began their careers or education during the pandemic, missing out on in-person collaboration, classroom learning, and traditional workplace culture. This lack of early professional interaction can limit confidence and communication in the workplace.

At the same time, Asian women represent one of the fastest-growing segments of the tech workforce. Many also carry expectations from traditional Asian households, where cultural norms may sometimes conflict with personal goals and career aspirations.

Unni Edge was created to address these realities. Unni (언니) means “older sister” in Korean, symbolizing trust, guidance, and relatability. Combined with “Edge,” it reflects the goal of helping young women sharpen their skills, amplify their voices, and gain the confidence to thrive in technology and leadership roles.
